The Accountant General of the Federation (AFG) has committed to prioritizing all requests from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and ensuring the timely release of funds for their allocations and entitlements.
The Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), Mr. Shemseldeen Babtunde Ogunjimi, acknowledged the large scope of the FRSC’s mandate in safeguarding lives on Nigerian roads.
A statement from the Office of the AGF, signed by Mr. Bawa Mokwa, Director (Press and Public Relations), reported that Mr. Ogunjimi made this promise during a working visit to the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Mr. Shehu Mohammed, in Abuja.
“Your officers and men are always on the road trying to keep the roads safe. For us at the Treasury, we will continue to support the FRSC. I want to assure you that every bit of your request and needs will be given prompt attention,” he said.
Mr. Ogunjimi commended the officers and men of the Federal Road Safety Corps for their dedication to duty despite existing challenges, urging them to continue their efforts.
Earlier in the discussion, Mr. Shehu Mohammed, the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, expressed his appreciation to the AGF for the visit and recognized the support received from the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF).
He stated that road safety has become a global priority and that the Federal Road Safety Corps will not falter in its determination to ensure safety on Nigerian roads.
While acknowledging that no strategy to promote road safety can succeed without adequate enforcement, the Corps Marshal detailed the operational challenges faced by the FRSC and sought the AGF’s assistance in addressing them through improved budgetary provisions and timely releases of funds.
