The Abuja Mega Lions Club has announced a N50 million fundraising campaign to support major humanitarian projects as it marks its 5th anniversary and the investiture of Lion (Dr) Charles Bassey, PMJF, NLCF, as its 5th President for the 2025/2026 Lions Year.
The event, described as “The Mother of all Investitures,” was held on November 1, 2025, at the Nafil Arcade and Water Park in Abuja. It featured the installation of new club officers and leadership roles, celebrating a renewed commitment to service and community impact.
According to the club, the funds raised will be directed toward key initiatives such as the digitisation and renovation of the City Library in Abuja, a project designed to enhance literacy and access to information in the Federal Capital Territory. The initiative reflects the club’s long-standing focus on education, youth empowerment, and sustainable community development.
In his inaugural address, Dr. Charles Bassey, a psychologist, banker, and resourcefulness coach, said the club’s work embodies a vision of lasting social impact. “Service beyond Today encapsulates our drive and mindset to ensure that every project we do outlives us and is a legacy that keeps blessing the lives of those who receive,” he stated.
Dr. Bassey called on members, friends, and well-wishers to support the humanitarian drive, stressing that service is the heartbeat of the Lions Club movement. “Our Service is Beyond Today – Let us Arise and Serve with Passion, We Serve,” he said, reiterating the club’s collective mission to inspire meaningful change through dedicated volunteerism.
The ceremony was chaired by Otunba Engr. Lusty Mustapha, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Konta Engineering Limited, while the Chief Host was Lion Pastor Ezekiel Umoh, PMJF, NLCF, District Governor of District 404A2, Nigeria.
Both guests commended the Abuja Mega Lions Club for its consistent record of impactful community service, encouraging members to sustain the club’s legacy of compassion and excellence.
Over the past five years, the Abuja Mega Lions Club has executed several life-changing projects across education, health, and social welfare sectors. This latest initiative, Dr. Bassey noted, represents a bold step toward expanding the club’s reach and ensuring that its service footprint continues to transform lives in years to come.
With its N50 million fundraising target, the club aims to deepen its social investments and reaffirm its commitment to building a stronger, more inclusive society through collective service and humanitarian engagement.
