Oyedele Arrives in Bangkok to Lead Nigeria at IMF, World Bank Meetings
By Patience Ikpeme
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, has arrived in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, where he will head Nigeria’s team at the 2026 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group.
This was made known in a statement by Mrs. Efe Ovuakporie, Head of the Information and Public Relations Unit of the Federal Ministry of Finance.
According to the statement, the meetings will run from October 12 to October 18. They will bring together finance ministers, central bank governors, development partners and other top people who shape the world economy. Their talks will cover the state of the global economy, where money for development should go, and the best ways to achieve growth that can last.
For Nigeria, the timing is important. The country is still working to keep its economy steady, draw in more investors and make sure that the reforms of the Federal Government lead to real results. These results, the statement said, include more productive activities, wider business opportunities and more jobs for Nigerians.
The statement said the Minister’s presence at the meetings gives Nigeria a chance to speak directly with international financial institutions and development partners. The discussions will touch on matters that are important to the country’s economic priorities and the position it holds in the global economy.
Mrs. Ovuakporie said more information about the Minister’s engagements and Nigeria’s role at the meetings would be shared as the meeting goes on.
