By Patience Ikpeme
The Dangote Group has taken a massive step toward making Nigeria home to the biggest oil refinery on earth by signing a new $400 million agreement for heavy construction machines.
The deal was signed with XCMG Construction Machinery Company, a top manufacturer from China. This move is part of a grand plan to expand the Dangote Petroleum Refinery from its current capacity of 650,000 barrels per day to a staggering 1.4 million barrels per day. Once this is finished, it will become the largest refinery in the world.
This new agreement allows the Dangote Group to get a wide variety of modern building equipment. These machines will not just work on the refinery but will also support big projects in farming, gas processing, and building large roads and bridges. The company expects to finish this huge expansion within the next three years.
Apart from petrol and diesel, the expansion will also boost the production of other essential products. The company plans to increase its production of polypropylene, used for making plastics, and triple its production of Urea fertilizer in Nigeria from 3 million to 9 million metric tonnes every year. This will make Dangote the biggest producer of Urea in the whole world.
The group also plans to produce more Linear Alkyl Benzene, which is a key ingredient for making soaps and detergents. By doing this, they will become the largest producer of this chemical in Africa, helping local soap makers get the materials they need more easily.
In a statement, the Dangote Group described the deal as a smart move to grow their building power and reach their goal of becoming a $100 billion company by the year 2030.
“The additional equipment we are acquiring under this partnership will significantly enhance execution across our projects. With this investment, we are positioning ourselves to become the number one construction company in the world,” the company said.
This investment shows that the Dangote Group is moving fast to expand its reach across Africa and the rest of the globe as it works toward its big vision for the future.
