RMAFC Chairman Vows to Enhance Revenue Monitoring Functions
By Patience Ikpeme
Dr. Mohammed Bello Shehu, Chairman of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), has reaffirmed his commitment to repositioning the Commission to effectively achieve its statutory mandate.
This declaration was made during his keynote address at the opening of a retreat for members of the Central Bank Monitoring Committee (CBMC) held in Kano from September 17 to 19, 2025.
Represented by Engr. Nduka Henry Awuregu, Chairman of the Committee and Honourable Commissioner representing Ebonyi State, Dr. Shehu emphasized that the retreat aligns with the new monitoring mandate outlined in the RMAFC Act of 2025. “With the new Act, all hands must be on deck to ensure the successful repositioning of the Commission to discharge its functions with professionalism,” he asserted.
Highlighting the crucial role of the CBMC, Dr. Shehu stated, “The Central Bank Monitoring Committee was created to closely monitor revenue accruals to and disbursement from the Federation Account domiciled with the Central Bank of Nigeria. This was based on reports addressing the perennial underperformance of revenue projections at all government levels.
He urged committee members to execute their duties diligently and assured them of his leadership’s support to overcome operational challenges. Dr. Shehu also stressed the importance of strong collaboration between RMAFC and the Central Bank: “The CBN is an important and cardinal institution that the Commission must relate with in carrying out its monitoring function.”
In a welcome address, the CBMC Chairman (represented by Vice Chairman Professor Steve Ugba) explained that the retreat’s purpose was to evaluate the committee’s oversight effectiveness and strengthen inter-agency cooperation, fostering fiscal transparency and sound national economic planning.
The Secretary to the Commission described the retreat as “timely and remarkable,” providing a critical opportunity for committee members to evaluate their performance and refine their approach to ensure the Commission’s mandate is fully realized.
