The Federal Government is in the process of relaunching its Revised National Monitoring and Evaluation System.
To achieve this, UNICEF in collaboration with the Center for learning on Evaluation and Results (CLEAR-AA) is poised to enhance Nigeria’s M&E framework to aligned with the National Development Plan and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which is part of the National Evaluation Capacity Development (NECD) initiative.
During a recent stakeholder meeting in Abuja, Dr. Emeka Vitalis Obi, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, noted that this collaboration is part of the National Evaluation Capacity Development (NECD) initiative.
He described the NECD initiative as a locally-driven effort that showcases Nigeria’s growing ability to implement evidence-based governance systems.
“This initiative is a very good one. It’s homegrown and very encouraging. It reflects our renewed drive to optimize Nigeria’s monitoring and evaluation processes,” Dr. Obi stated. “Under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, this government is committed to mainstreaming monitoring and evaluation across policy and program delivery.” he stated.
Dr Vitalis further noted that these initiatives aim to enhance evidence-based decision-making, improve governance, and align Nigeria’s M&E systems with global standards, such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
He also expressed gratitude to UNICEF and international partners for their dedication to strengthening Nigeria’s monitoring and evaluation (M&E) systems. This appreciation stems from UNICEF’s consistent efforts to build national evaluation capacities.
CLEAR-AA’s Head of Mission, Mr. Taku Chiran, highlighted Nigeria’s leadership role in regional M&E systems and the importance of peer learning and international collaboration.
“Peer learning is critical,” said the CLEAR-AA Head of Mission. “We aim to connect Nigeria’s growing NM&E systems with leading global institutions. We are also exploring study visits to successful countries to give Nigerian leaders firsthand insights into best practices around the world through the Peer Learning and International Collaboration.”
Mrs. Olasumbo Ayinde-Yakub, Director of National M&E Department, praised the initiative for its impact on policy-making and service delivery.
