FG Maintains Remitta
…Integrates Other Payment Gateways in Treasury Management System
By Patience Ikpeme
The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) has clarified that the Federal Government has not discarded Remitta as its approved payment gateway.
Instead, Remitta will be integrated into the newly introduced Treasury Management and Revenue Assurance System (TMRAS) alongside other eligible Payment Solution Service Providers (PSSPs), a move designed to enhance liberalization and streamline government revenue collection.
The OAGF, in a statement released by Director of Press and Public Relations, Mr. Bawa Mokwa, stated that the TMRAS, which went live on March 4, 2025, aims to coordinate, streamline, and manage Federal Government revenue collections and payments across all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
This system will facilitate the liberalization of government revenue payment processes, significantly enhance revenue collection, and provide for efficient and timely analysis of transaction-related information.
This policy initiative, the OAGF explained, aligns with the directives of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, to achieve effective treasury revenue assurance and improve budget performance across all MDAs and Federal Government Owned Enterprises (FGOEs).
Clarifying Remitta’s role within the new framework, the OAGF stated, “Remitta is one of the secured channels of revenue payment, but there are many others. The Treasury Management and Revenue Assurance (TMRAS) will now allow these other secure payment platforms to connect. So, it will not be only Remitta, but all the other payments service providers that are licensed by the CBN will be able to operate.” This statement shows the government’s intent to broaden the payment ecosystem while maintaining secure transaction standards.
To address concerns among revenue payers and the general public, the OAGF clarified that Remitta will remain the sole approved payment gateway for Federal Government payments and revenue collection for at least the next two months. This period will allow for a smooth transition as the government works to take over the management of the front-end payment infrastructure and expand the collection system to accommodate other CBN-licensed PSSPs.
The OAGF reassured stakeholders that the integration of multiple payment platforms into the TMRAS will not compromise security or efficiency. The system is designed to ensure that all participating PSSPs meet stringent security standards, thereby maintaining the integrity of government revenue transactions.
The OAGF advised all revenue payers and the general public to continue using Remitta for all payments to the Federal Government. Additionally, they recommended visiting www.fgntreasury.gov.ng for further information and to ensure seamless payment processing.
The implementation of the TMRAS is expected to usher in a new era of transparency and efficiency in government revenue management, fostering greater accountability and improving overall budget performance.
