Dangote Cement, Gboko Communities Sign Historic Peace Pact

A wave of jubilation swept through Gboko on Wednesday as Dangote Cement Plc and six host communities signed a landmark Community Development Agreement (CDA). This historic pact, which promises significant development initiatives, is seen as a transformative step for the region.
The signing ceremony was attended by dignitaries including His Royal Highness, Ter Gboko, Gabriel Shosum, who hailed the agreement as a dawn of a new era. The monarch expressed gratitude to Alhaji Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, for his commitment to the community’s welfare.
Mrs. Bimbo Sariat Olawoye, representing the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, commended the achievement and called for collective efforts to ensure the full implementation of the CDA. Hon. Elias T. Yina, Executive Chairman of Gboko Local Government, described the agreement as unparalleled in the company’s history and highlighted its potential to benefit the entire state.
Louis K. Raj, Plant Director of Dangote Cement Gboko, emphasized the role of various stakeholders, including the Benue State government, Gboko Local Government, community leaders, and the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, in achieving this milestone.
The CDA outlines a comprehensive plan for social investment, including: improved access to potable water, electricity, and roads; scholarship grants for secondary and tertiary education; enhanced healthcare facilities and programmes for youth, women, and farmers.
Wakeel Olayiwola, Head of Social Performance at Dangote Cement, highlighted the significance of the CDA in implementing key projects in the host communities over the next five years.
Prince Yandev Amaabai, President General of the Jemgbash Development Association, urged the communities to maintain peace and support the company’s operations.
The six host communities that signed the agreement are: Tse-kucha(Mbatyula), Quarry, Amua (Mbakper), Mbazembe, Mbatur, and Pass Brothers. This historic partnership between Dangote Cement and the Gboko communities is expected to bring about positive change and sustainable development to the region.
