The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has introduced a new Licensing Framework for Application-to-Person (A2P) services.
This development, grounded in the provisions of the Nigerian Communications Act (NCA) of 2003, underscores the NCC’s commitment to fostering regulatory clarity and stakeholder engagement.
The disclosure was made through a statement by the NCC’s Director of Public Affairs, Reuben Muoka. According to the statement, the framework has been published on the Commission’s official website, www.ncc.gov.ng, and is accessible to all stakeholders.
“The Nigerian Communications Commission, in the exercise of the powers conferred on it by the Nigerian Communications Act (NCA) 2003, hereby notifies all its stakeholders that the Application-To-Person (A2P) Framework has been published on the website of the Commission,” the statement read.
As part of efforts to encourage stakeholder participation, the NCC disclosed plans to host a virtual forum on December 20, 2024, to deliberate on the framework. Stakeholders are encouraged to review the document and submit their comments and contributions by December 19, 2024. Submissions can be emailed to aadaba@ncc.gov.ng with a copy to msyusuf@ncc.gov.ng.
The framework aims to streamline A2P communication services, ensuring compliance with existing regulations and enhancing the integrity of telecommunications services in Nigeria. This initiative reflects the NCC’s ongoing efforts to adapt to the dynamic needs of the telecoms industry and its users.
The NCC reiterated its dedication to upholding the provisions of the Nigerian Communications Act, urging stakeholders to actively participate in the consultation process to ensure robust and inclusive regulatory outcomes.
