ICPC Begins Tracking 1,500 Constituency Projects Worth N610bn

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has commenced the seventh phase of its constituency and executive projects tracking initiative. The exercise involves monitoring 1,500 projects valued at ₦610 billion to ensure proper utilization of funds.
The ICPC spokesperson, Demola Bakare, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja, highlighting that the initiative, which began in 2019, focuses on critical sectors such as education, health, agriculture, water resources, and power.
According to Bakare, the seventh phase of the tracking exercise commenced on November 18 and covers the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and 21 states across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones. The states include Kwara, Niger, Kogi, Kebbi, Kano, Kaduna, Jigawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Borno, Lagos, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Cross River, Delta, Imo, Abia, and Enugu.
The initiative encompasses projects executed by various government agencies and intervention bodies, such as the North-East Development Commission (NEDC), the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), the National Primary Health Care Development Authority (NPHCDA), the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND), and the Ecological Fund Office.
Bakare stated that the objectives of the exercise are to: ensure adherence to due process in project execution; improve value for money in government spending; promote compliance with contract scope and specifications.
During the sixth phase of the initiative, the ICPC tracked 1,900 projects valued at ₦500 billion across 24 states and the FCT. These projects spanned key sectors, including education, water resources, agriculture, power, health, energy, and roads.
A total of 1,355 contractors were involved in the projects, which were executed under 176 Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
The ICPC remains committed to deepening transparency and accountability in the implementation of government projects to foster trust and ensure that public resources are effectively utilized for the benefit of all Nigerians.
