NCS Advances Trade Modernization Projec

The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, led a meeting to strengthen the progress of the NCS’ Trade Modernization Project.

The goal is to make trade processes more efficient and streamlined.

In a closed-door session convened at the Customs Corporate Headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, CGC Adeniyi underscored the project’s objective of comprehensively automating NCS operations.

The TMP encompasses various facets such as the Unified Customs Management System, Trade Portal, and Cargo Release System, coupled with Automation Services like Big Data & AI Integration and Document Management System, alongside Transition & Handbook for Technology Upgrades and Enhanced Capacity Building.

CGC Adeniyi emphasized the project’s pivotal role in promoting transparency, efficiency, and effectiveness within the NCS, setting the stage for adapting to evolving market dynamics, optimizing operations, and unlocking new revenue streams.

The project, designed to span twenty years with three distinct phases, aims to address challenges, foster informed decision-making, and propel the service forward. CGC Adeniyi expressed optimism regarding robust discussions and the review of implementation progress.

Chairman of the Trade Modernization Project Limited, Saleh Ahmadu, reaffirmed unwavering support for the initiative, highlighting the development of software to integrate revenue collection and bolster NCS’s revenue target of N6 trillion in 2024.

Despite facing challenges, particularly in foreign exchange sourcing, Ahmadu extended gratitude to the Federal Government of Nigeria and the CGC for their steadfast support, emphasizing a commitment to revolutionizing trade facilitation in Nigeria.

With confidence in the steering committee’s support, Ahmadu affirmed a proactive approach towards project milestones, affirming dedication to realizing the envisioned objectives.

The collaborative efforts between the NCS and stakeholders underscore a concerted drive towards modernizing trade operations and fostering economic growth in Nigeria.
