Insurance not in conflict with Religious Beliefs-Ado Bayero
By Patience Ikpeme
The Emir of Kano, Alh. Aminu Ado Bayero, has stated that insurance is not conflicting with religious beliefs, particularly with the introduction of Takaful insurance.
Takaful insurance is a type of Islamic insurance that operates in accordance with Islamic principles.
The Emir believes that insurance is an important aspect of human life and he encouraged Nigerians to embrace insurance as a way to mitigate loss, especially in businesses and property.
He mentioned this during a visit from the management of the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), headed by the Commissioner for Insurance, Olorundare Sunday Thomas.
Emir Ado Bayero also urged the Commission to ensure that insurance obligations are met by insurers. He commended the Commission for its efforts in developing the Nigerian insurance market.
In recognition of his support for insurance, the Commission named Emir Aminu Ado Bayero as the Royal Ambassador for Insurance in the country. The Commission also praised his leadership since assuming the throne.
As part of its efforts to promote compulsory insurances, the National Insurance Commission visited the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule.
They discussed the benefits of insurance, including public buildings and buildings under construction, as well as third-party motor insurance.
The Commissioner also extended an invitation to the Governor to attend the National Insurance Conference.
During the meeting, the Governor shared a personal testimony about a fire incident at a sugar refinery where he worked as the Managing Director.
He highlighted how insurance played a vital role in rebuilding a newer and better facility using the claims paid by an insurance company.
The Commissioner for Insurance expressed gratitude to both the Emir and the Nasarawa State governor for accepting the invitation to attend the National Insurance Conference.
The conference is scheduled to take place from October 22 to 24, 2023, in Abuja.
